My name is Monica Hols and I am an educator. Over fifteen years ago, I left my care farm, a career in journalism and extensive experiences in youth work behind in the Netherlands to come and live in Tasmania with my Australian husband and our three children.
Not long after, I did some training, had some odd jobs, and became involved in adult education. I developed a passion in teaching and through the Department of Education I was given a fantastic opportunity to engage in further study at the University of Tasmania. How amazing! My motivation to better myself paid off, and at the start of 2017, I was offered a teaching position at TasTAFE. I taught disengaged youth and adults who wanted to connect with education again. Challenging at times however it provided me with a great base to further explore my teaching options.
In 2018 TasTAFE offered me a permanent position with the Work Pathways Programs and it is here where I have found my niche: teaching young adults with additional learning needs the skills they need to transition into work or further training.
I feel very privileged and continue my journey in life long learning.
