My name is Monica Hols and I am an educator. Nearly eleven years ago,
I left my care farm, a career in journalism and extensive experiences in youth work behind in the Netherlands to come and live in Tasmania with my Australian husband and our three children.
Not long after, I did some training, had some odd jobs, before starting a job as a VET Student Assistant at TasTAFE. It was here where I developed a new passion: teaching! Through the Department of Education I was given a fantastic opportunity to study for the Bachelor of Education in Applied Learning at the University of Tasmania. How amazing! My motivation to better myself, paid off, and at the start of 2017, I was offered a teaching position at TasTAFE. I taught disengaged youth and adults who wanted to connect with education again. Challenging at times however it provided me with a great base to further explore my teaching options.
In 2018 TasTAFE offered me a permanent position with the Work Pathways Programs and it is here where I have found my niche: teaching young adults with additional learning needs the skills they need to transition into work or further training.
I feel very privileged...
